The first time I read this book I was astonished by its intensity, the second reading made me cry This an intense poetry experience It is not formal poetry but it is well written The subject matter is difficult and sometimes upsetting However it is not a book that deliberately sets out to shock, but rather is a book that shows human nature and suffering at its rawest, how unpleasant events in our youth can change the whole course of our lives part of the power of Parker s writing is that he does [...]
It s taken me far far too long to finish this, but it s a wonderful collection of poetry Honest, simple, and yet with the essential ability of hitting you in face when you get complacent It s also rare to find poetry that actually feels self aware, and it s what I ve been waiting for Some of the poems in this book are examples of poetry I ve been trying to find for a long time.
Brilliant shattering, gut wrenching stuff.
