Rumours of a new and upcoming George RR Martin Game of Thrones book have been put to rest by the author himself.
Martin took to his blog to set the record straight over the rumours and misinformation over a new Game of Thrones book being released earlier this year. The book in question was not the highly anticipated The Winds of Winter that fans have been waiting for but another named, The Book of Swords.

The Game of Thrones author took to his own personal blog (full quote can be seen below) to end these rumours by explaining that The Book of Swords is not his book and is, in fact, a fantasy anthologist (short collection of stories by varies authors) and that he only had a small part to play in it with his title, The Sons of the Dragon.
He then goes on to explain that he neither edited or co-edited the collection either and while he may have done so in the past he has not done so this time.
“However, there is a lot that’s wrong out there as well. THE BOOK OF SWORDS is not my book. I didn’t write but a small part of it, and I didn’t edit it, nor even co-edit it. Gardner is one of my oldest friends and I have co-edited a number of anthologies together. We did OLD MARS and OLD VENUS together. We did SONGS OF LOVE & DEATH and DOWN THESE STRANGE STREETS together. We did the huge award-winning cross-genre anthologies WARRIORS, DANGEROUS WOMEN, and ROGUES together. But we did not do THE BOOK OF SWORDS together.”
Afterwards, Martin gives a brief story of his story that is the “small part” that he did have in The Book of Swords fantasy anthology along with the release date of October 10th that has been set.
Fans will still be hoping that despite Martins work towards other projects that it will not delay in The Winds of Winter novel that he hinted would hopefully be finished and released by the end of the year.
