The Man In The High Castle has been one of the major TV surprises for many fans. The compelling storyline of an alternative world about life under Nazi Germany and Japanese control in North America and other parts of the world, due to the allies not winning the Second World War, has been both intriguing and enthralling.
The TV series, which is exclusive to Amazon Prime, was only just renewed for a third season last week shortly after the second season became available at the end of last year. The news has certainly been welcomed by many fans as the ending of the last season has done nothing but make us want to see more.
Welcome to FanNews and today we are going to talk about ‘3 Reasons Why We Can’t Wait For The Man In The High Castle Season 3. Before we start, this article may contain spoilers for those not fully caught up to the end of season 2. So if you’re not caught up go and get caught up, then come right back when you are.
The final episode of the season left us with Juliana fleeing the Reich to the neutral zone as once again she ended up on the wrong side of the resistance as she decided to save the life of a young boy from them who’s father happens to be the high profile resistance target Obergruppenfuhrer John Smith. While she is in flight she encounters Hawthorne Abendsen, who is The Man In The High Castle, who she did encounter earlier on in the season. Abendsen reveals to Juliana that he has witnessed her many times within the films and that she is essentially the constant focus or the centrepiece and that her decisions affect everyone.
The reason why we can’t wait to see more of Juliana is that her storyline affects everyone, even people who rarely cross her path. We got a glimpse of that with Tagomi during season 2 and we are intrigued if we will get to see more glimpses of how Juliana decisions affect others and how their life is altered.
Joe was last seen in the final episode, being dragged away by his father, Reichsminister Martin Heusmann, who we watched much throughout season 2 trying to repair their relationship. At the end of the season, it was revealed that the man behind the uprising within the Reich’s hierarchy was non-other than Joe’s father, all of which was unknown to Joe himself. The plan, however, is unsuccessful due to the efforts of Smith and Heusmann is taking away but in turn so is Joe.
The reason why we can’t wait to see Joe in season 3 is because we need to know what his fate will be. Will he be punished alongside his father? Will he be punished because he is the son of Heusmann or will he be released? Will Smith step in to save Joe?
Obergruppenfuhrer John Smith is one of the most complicated characters within the show. A clear patriot, devoted soldier and father his character has been the one to watch. We last saw Smith in Berlin as he brought down the conspirators determined to rage a war with the Japanese and build the ‘master race’, no matter the casualty rate. While bringing down the conspirators were the main focus for Smith’s storyline this season we also got the story of how he tries to protect his sick son. Under Nazi law in this world, some diseases are dealt with by the individual being put to death. Desperate for this not to happen he goes to extreme lengths to prevent this. Alas while in Berlin trying to save his country from going to war his son, who is aware of his condition, turns himself over to the authorities as he believes he is being a good son in the eyes of the Nazi regime. Despite Smiths best efforts we last see his son being taking away by the authorities.
Smith’s irony is that he has ultimately saved the system that takes his boy from him. Will his loyalties remain with the Reich after he finds out the outcome of his son, or will they alter? This is why we want to see Smith.
