With new movies being released almost on a daily basis, it can be hard to decide on what to go and see. Well, we have gone and done the hard work for. Welcome to FanNews and this is our ‘5 Must See January Movies 2017’.
Before we get started with our list please be aware that this is in no particular order and is based on UK release dates so things can vary depending on where you are.
1: ‘La La Land’
Release date 12th January 2017
‘La La Land’ is a musical, romantic, comedy drama directed by Damien Chazelle and stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The film was initially released in the US on 16th December 2016 and is the story set in LA of a jazz pianist, played by Ryan Gosling, falling for aspiring actress, Emma Stone. Currently, the movie is sweeping away in the awards and is expected to carry on in this trend. That, however, is not the reason to go see it. If you are a fan of musicals, then go and see this movie, we have not had something like this made in such a long time that it was not only refreshing to see but extremely enjoyable.
2: ‘A Monsters Call’
Release date 1st January 2017
‘A Monster Calls’ is the fantasy drama movie which is based on the book, ‘A Monster Calls’, by Patrick Ness. It is about a boy who seeks help from a tree monster who then, in turn, helps the young boy come to terms with his mother’s terminal illness. The film stars Lewis MacDougall, Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and is directed by J.A. Bayona. Another movie which is also being considered for potential awards this a very powerful and emotional drama which delivers valuable life lessons to the audience in a unique way. If you are looking for a well-crafted drama told in a different way, or a movie to take your slightly older child who no longer likes kid’s movies, or if you have just read the book then go see this movie.
3) ‘Sherlock: The Final Problem’
Release date 15th January 2017
Not exactly a movie this one. ‘Sherlock: The Final Problem’ is a TV series episode but is available to see in theatres. ‘Sherlock’ is the TV series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman and is based on the Sherlock novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. ‘Sherlock: The Final Problem’ is the series four concluding episode and has been named after the original short story of when Sherlock apparently meet his demise. The episode is being plagued with rumours of whether will it be the final ever episode. Any fans of the hit TV series may want to take the opportunity to see this episode on the big screen, as it may be the last one ever.
4) ‘Manchester By The Sea’
Release date January 13th
Originally released during the London film festival on October 8th, 2016 but has only come to theatres now in the UK. ‘Manchester By The Sea’ is directed by Kenneth Lonergan and stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. It is the story of a man who suddenly finds himself having to care, maybe indefinitely, for his nephew as his father died. An emotional drama that at some points can be very difficult to watch as the movie progresses throughout. Another major contender for award success but if you are looking for a very serious drama with some excellent story portrayal then you defiantly want to check out this movie.
5) ‘T2 Trainspotting’
Release Date January 27th
21 years after the original movie, ‘T2 Trainspotting’, will hit theatres at the end of January. Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremmer and Robert Carlyle all return to reprise their original roles in this continuation of what has become a very firm British favourite.
