Only days after the news of the ‘Charmed’ revival fans would have by now had time to digest the news and come to their own opinion. For those who are unaware and in the dark, it was announced that CW would be reviving the much-loved ‘Charmed’ TV series that ran from ‘98-‘06.
Before you get too excited about it though there are a few, but in our opinion, very big drawbacks. The show will first of all not contain any of the original line up. That’s right, Piper, Prue, Phoebe and Paige will not be making an appearance. That’s not to say that they have been completely ruled out, an interview with CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed the following;
“In terms of whether characters or actresses will come into the series, we’ll see what happens as the series goes on — that’s to be determined,”
So there is some hope that some of the original members may make an appearance, however, as nothing is confirmed I wouldn’t get your hopes up. This does lead us nicely into our next issue which is the time frame. The show is to be set almost four decades from the original timeline. Rumours of a possible prequel style show circled however CW has also knocked down that out of the park as in the interview with Pedowitz he was quoted saying that the show will be;
This then further cements that no original members will make an appearance as the story line has nothing to do with the original cast and as it’s set almost forty years ago there will have to be some creative writing skills to make some sort of connection. Oh, and it is also set in a completely different location. This rules out the possibility of the Charmed Ones’ parents and grandmother being used for the story, something fans could have got on board with.
So, in conclusion, we have a revival TV series that will most likely not feature any of the original cast, which was the whole foundation of the series, and it is set in a different time period and in a completely different location. Fans of the original series will most likely be having doubts on this as if you are looking for similarities from the original the only thing we can find so far is that the whole power of three will remain.
Hopefully, it won’t be a nosedive of a TV series and fans will get a lovely surprise and a whole new generation of ‘Charmed’ fans will be created and fingers crossed original cast members will make a guest appearance as this would certainly improve the ratings. In this instance, however, only time will tell as the show is currently till in the pilot episode stage.
What do you think of this news? Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the show to be its own self-contained version? Leave a comment below to let us know your thoughts.
