The events leading up to D-Day and what went on between key figures will soon be shown on the big screen as Churchill comes to theatres on June 2nd.
What Will It Be About?
Set within days of the D-Day landings this movie focuses on Winston Churchill leading up to that day and what was happening as he dealt with the effects of his past and depression.
The movie also looks at other key members of that day, Eisenhower and Montgomery, and what effect Churchill was having on them.
Why Are They Making This?
This is obviously based on the true events of D-Day itself. The need to ensure that those days are not forgotten and history is repeated along with the constant fascination of World War II is undoubtedly the reason for this movie’s origin, it is just a different perspective we are seeing it from that the usual soldiers on the battlefield.
Who Is In It?
Brian Cox, who has over 200 acting credits to his name, including features such as Braveheart (1995), Troy (2004) and The Bourne Identity (2002), will play the role of Winston Churchill.
Churchill’s wife Clementine Churchill is to be played by Miranda Robertson, Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Empire of the Sun (1987), with John Slattery as Dwight Eisenhower and Julian Wadham as Bernard Montgomery.
This is the first of two movies set for release this year that is centred around Churchill.
The second movie, Darkest Hour, is to star Gary Oldman as Churchill and is scheduled for release at the end of the year.
Reactions So Far
Mixed reactions to the movie are apparent amongst fans.
Some fans appear to be pleased of a movie being made about him whereas some are labelling it as nothing more than history being written by the victors and warping the truth. As
Some fans are even discussing over social media that a movie about Churchill and his relationship with India would be a more appropriate movie.
