Sharing is caring!

With Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story in theatres for exactly one month now and the movie fast approaching the $1 Billion mark, it can safely be said that the movie has been a success. Fans have certainly had plenty of moments from the movie to enjoy and discuss however there is one scene in particular that has been discussed the most. That scene, however, was originally not meant to be.

The end scene in which Darth Vader, essentially, singlehandedly enihalted the entire crew of a single ship as they tried to escape with the stolen plans brought shock and awe to many fans. That scene, however, was originally never supposed to be there.

Yahoo movies interviewed editor, John Gilroy, who revealed that the scene was one of the additional retakes that were done in the final moments of creating the movie. When discussing the retakes he revealed that:

“What was added — and it was a fantastic add — was the Vader action scene, with him boarding the ship and dispatching all those rebel soldiers,”

Therefore, the infamous scene, that gave every star wars fan goose bumps, was not, in fact, an original ending to the movie.

Gilroy went on to discuss how and why the reshoots were done as they have certainly been one of the major talking points in the creation of the movie as fans heavily criticised the fact that scenes from the promotional trailer where not in the final cut of the movie.

Gilroy does explain that the plan was always going to be for the stolen plans to be beamed to the rebel ship and have them copied onto a hard disk and presented to Princess Leia with Vader hot on her heals. It was just how they created this part of the story that was changed.

With this new piece of information revealed, we can’t help but wonder if the movie would have been as successful if the ending had not been created the way it had. The final scenes certainly topped the movie off with a wow factor and gave fans a gratifying moment of pleasure seeing the legendary Vader being the ultimate bad ass he has become known to be.
